The local police arrived at the scene and sent the bodies for postmortem. Per the police, two were identified, respectively, as Amit and Vivek from Imadpur in Farrukhabad, while the identity of the third victim is still unknown.

Relatives of the victims have blamed the concerned officials for the tragedy. Netizens questioned why there were no barricades or signs of caution on the unfinished bridge. Social media users also blamed the civil contractors and local administration for the unfortunate accident that was very much avoidable. While Google Map is being blamed for the deaths of three, users online verified that the alleged route is not shown on the app as reported but pops up in satellite mode. Meanwhile, few other reports also blamed dense fog as the additional cause of the accident. Various other outlets have reported that the men were traveling from Bareilly to Datanganj in Badaun district and not from Gurugam. Per the Hindustan Times, the Circle Area Officer stated that a flood early this year damaged the bridge, causing a portion of the structure to collapse into the river.
