This Christmas season is expected to be filled with big merry releases including Christmas in Miller’s Point as well as Red One led by Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson. However, the season is also set to offer a horror vibe in India. Among massive releases from Bollywood like Baby John and Welcome To The Jungle, Indian Box Office will see massive releases from International films from the action genre as well as the horror, and psychological genre.

Two major horror releases for the month include Nosferatu. A multistarrer that follows a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake. Directed by Robert Eggers, the film is reportedly a remake of the 1922 German film, which was originally based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. The project has been on director Robert Eggers’ plate since 2015.

All his movies lean heavily on folklore and mythology and this too is expected to do justice to the original and first-ever depiction of vampires on the big screen. The first film in 1992 was also a remake of 1979 film Nosferatu the Vampyre, written and directed by Werner Herzog. The casting of the film is also worth nothing. The role of Count Orlok will be played by Bill Skarsgård who is also known for playing the evil dancing clown Pennywise in the IT series. Veteran actor Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson along with Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp will lead the film.

Also where there are vampires, there are Werewolves. Just around Nosferatu’s release another film titled Werewolves is set to release in the same month. While there isn’t much buzz about the film, it is one of the releases in early December. The film is set to be a horror action, set in a world were people are turning into Werewolves as it becomes a national level threat.

On the other hand, Heretic is one of the most talked about movies in the last couple of months. The film led by Hugh Grant follows the story of two sister missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints become victim of a deadly game of cat and mouse when they cross path with Mr. Reed. The synopsis added that the sisters, “trapped in his home, they must turn to their faith if they want to make it out alive.”

Many review of the film are already out as it was screened at TIFF and the critics have been impressed. Roger Edbert said, “The true horror of Heretic doesn’t come through violent action as much as what Reed’s elaborate plans say about the human condition.” On the other hand, Brett Krzykowski of Radio Milwaukee, praised Hugh’s performing saying, “Heretic is not lighthearted. It is heavyhearted. Much of the weight comes from Grant’s gripping performance, but the film’s subject matter also carries some oomph (as A24’s very best films do). Religion might as well be a character in the movie, which isn’t afraid to commit huge swathes of dialogue to the exploration of faith and the meaning of life itself.”

Apart from, horror, Psychological thrillers and the month also has much action and gore to offer through anime and animated films. Solo Leveling based on a webtoon of same name and War of Rohirrim based in the world of The Lord Of The Rings is set to hit the big screen this Christmas season.
